Women’s Contemporary Portraiture Collection vs Traditional Headshots

What makes our Women’s Contemporary Portraiture Collection different from a traditional headshot?

The Women’s Contemporary Portraiture Collection by Michael Carr Photography features editorial and lifestyle attributes to enhance your visual persona, connect with your audience, and translate your message. Most contemporary sessions include a mixture of dramatically lit images using solid backgrounds which helps to bring focus to the subject.  Some sessions include elements of simple furnishings to create a more casual and relaxed portrait image.  In contrast a traditional headshot may focus on matching your head and shoulder business portrait to other images on a company website or directory page. A traditional company business portrait may require a generic lighting style that is consistent for most type of subjects versus a personalized lighting style that compliments your own features.

Women’s Contemporary Portrait sessions by Michael Carr Photography are designed to portray an individual’s confidence in front of the camera and are tailored specifically for you.  Here are four tips to make your Contemporary Portrait session an incredible experience.

  1. Start with a Consultation

Each Women’s Contemporary Portrait Photography session begins with a consultation to review your session goals, where the images will be used for marketing collateral, and what format and sizes are required for final images.

  1. Plan for Your Professional Hair and Makeup

Female professionals should have their hair and make-up done by a professional hairstylist and makeup artist the day of your session. A professional makeup artist will highlight your best features and choose the right colors to compliment your outfit for your photography session. We are happy to provide recommendations upon request. Also, consider your hands as they may show in your portrait. Some clients opt to get a manicure before their session and select a clear polish or neutral color for their nails.

  1. Select Attire that Complement Your Best Features

Women’s contemporary portraits have the emphasis on you. Your clothing should reflect your professional style and the business image you want to deliver as part of your personal brand.  Blouses, skirts, dresses, and jackets should be in a solid color or have a light pattern. Feel free to bring up to 3-5 clean, well-pressed outfits to your session.  If you normally wear glasses, wear them in your portrait. Lastly, when it comes to jewelry, less is best. We recommend wearing pearls or diamonds for a classic and polished look.

  1. Design Your Women’s Contemporary Portrait Collection

At the end of your portrait session, you will review your images and make your selection. Women’s Contemporary Portrait sessions with multiple clothing changes are time efficient and typically completed within 45 minutes.  A digital artist will edit your final images in digital enhancement software to soften puffiness under the eyes, minimize smile lines and refine the portrait.

From the final images, clients select a collection of custom framed prints to display in their office, home, and to give as gifts to loved ones.

Houston Corporate Business Headshots

Question: would you wear old unpolished shoes with a new untailored suit to an interview? Obviously not, on the contrary, your goal is to present yourself in the best possible way. Something to consider, your corporate online image is being viewed 24-7 by industry professionals.

In terms of professional corporate business headshots, your online corporate portrait is a form of personal branding. People look at your online bio image and this may be their first impression of you. Your corporate image needs to be polished, professional and convey the best first impression possible.

Today’s business market is competitive. So called “photographers” are flooding the industry daily. You must do your research and look at online portfolios and online reviews to see the difference for yourself. Please do not be someone’s “Test subject”. Seek a professional photographer whose specialty is portraiture. Your business online presence is far more important than just shopping around for the cheapest price.

As in the above scenario, why would you put a corporate image of yourself online with poor lighting, bad posture and no facial or clothing retouching? Do your homework before having your business portrait taken. We always recommend a consultation before your session so your clothing and image are conveyed through your image brand. Our portrait lighting is consistent in studio as well as on location. With Michael Carr’s extensive knowledge in portraiture, you will receive a facial analysis before your session so you are photographed in the correct lighting scenario to best compliment your facial features and bone structure.

Carr Portraits is a full time commercial studio with over 20 years of portraiture experience. We specialize in all forms of portraiture with an emphasis in corporate portraits. Call us today to reserve your appointment at 713-461-2862.

Tips for Your Business Portrait

Below are a few helpful tips to prepare for your business portrait session and executive business headshot:
1) Clothing tips for your business portrait:
What to wear? Does your clothing fit properly and do feel confident? Try on your outfit or suit at home first. We always recommend solid colors and neutral tones and classic clothing lines. You do not want someone to look at your portrait, and be able to date it based on your clothing and clothing style (shoulder pads and big hair screams 80’s fashion). You want your viewers to notice your face and expression first, then clothing. Do not let your clothing overpower your business portrait. Men should select a tie that is classic and not too busy of a pattern or color. Your tie and suit choice should be a recent suit and properly fitted. If you do not wear a suit often, then it would be a good idea to try it on well before your session to make sure it fits correctly. Men- if your suit is a bit snug, or you cannot button your jacket or collar of your shirt then it is time to invest in new clothing. Clothes that are too tight or that do not fit you properly will photograph poorly and you will not be comfortable during your session. You can view more clothing tips here.
2) Make up and Hair:
We recommend you either contacting our partner salon for make up and hair, or going to a salon you have used in the past and feel comfortable with. Makeup should be the correct tone, shade and intensity: not too dark and not too light. A fresh blow out will do wonders, and you will be ready for a fun night out after your session.
3) It’s Session Day:
First, relax and breathe. We will help you feel relaxed and comfortable for your headshot session. We will walk you through and talk with you to help provoke the expression you are wanting for your portrait. When your session is over, we will also help you select your final images.
